Our picks for NYC art openings and events this Thursday
Acclaimed photographer Donna Ferrato will display photographs taken 14 years ago, that document the now infamous, month-long party/art experiment staged by 90s Internet mogul Josh Harris. Twenty-eight of Ferrato’s never-before-seen photograph’s from ‘Quiet’ will be shown as part of a 3-month art series “A Quiet Summer”.

RISD 2014 MFA Painting Thesis Exhibition
We first discovered Sophia Narrett’s amazingly detailed embroidered works of lush narrative scenes at The Last Brucennial. As part of her thesis exhibition, she will be showing alongside classmates Andrew Woolbright, Reesa Wood, Amanda Nedham, Tommy Mishima, Danielle Kiser, Kyle Hittmeier, Lyla Duey, Amna Asghar and David Aipperspach. Many of them appear, similarly, to be ones to watch.
The Lodge Gallery celebrates the season of fertility with “Mating Season,” an exhibition of work inspired both by natural history and everyday life. The group show includes the work of Tiffany Bozic, Lina Puerta, Juan Fontanive, George Boorujy, Maxi Cohen, and many more.

This four-person painting show highlights artists who either currently or have lived in California. Featuring the work of Jose Arenas, Patrick Dintino, Amir H. Fallah, and Don Porcella, this exhibition will explore the impact of color, design, symbols and contemporary figuration on these artists, whom often incorporate religious or culture-specific iconography into their surrealist works that draw on a rich history of painting and collage from California.
